YYYYoooouuuuTTTTuuuubbbbeeee?

See, you’re intrigued by my newfound lack of typing skills. You’re wondering “Gee, how come the word ‘YouTube’ is suddenly stretched out by like 21 extra letters, thereby widening its size on my screen by 400%?” Well, all will be answered after the jump…

It appears that in a very unpublicized shift, YouTube has begun to allow the upload and view of widescreen (16:9) movies through their website. TechRadar brings us the news that YouTube is now allowing users to upload 16:9 widescreen format videos, just like those that you shoot on your professional camcorder or watch in a movie theater.

The best guess is that YouTube is serious when they say that they eventually want to work out deals with production companies to allow for the streaming of full length movies through the website. So in the future, you may be able to pay for a movie, and play it back from any computer worldwide.

Not a bad idea. The only trouble so far seems to be with imbedding the widescreen clips into other webpages – the imbedded videos automatically reset to the standard 4:3 format. But I’m sure YouTube will address that situation shortly – or perhaps it’s part of their plan to keep people from streaming full length movies via other web portals.
