Google Adds Video/Voice To GMail, Reinforces Friendly Corporate Overlord Persona

Google, for me, has grown into the teddy bear of global powers.  It’s this large, fluffy, plushy thing with shiny button eyes and the liquidity to build a giant laser in space capable of splitting the planet in half.  So I thought it was adorable when I heard that the teddy bear is releasing voice and video chat capabilities for GMail.

GMail (Google Mail) is my own choice for web-based e-mail.  I have several accounts that all forward to one GMail address, where I am happily able to manage what would otherwise be insanity.  And now with the ability to video chat with others, I’m given a quick, easy alternative to services such as Skype.  It’s also pretty handy for businesses that realize it’s kind of silly to blow off a ton of cash just so they can see the guys in Japan with which they’re having a meeting.  Now they can just log into GMail, pull up a screen and yap away!  They’ll also have the option of placing the entire conversation into a separate window, freeing themselves from their e-mail and being able to focus on the important meeting at hand.

So check it out and see how Google continues to make your life easier so you don’t notice their ever-increasing stranglehold on the market.
