Internet Memes - Keep up or you just might miss the fad

Internet memes:
Wikipedia describes an “internet meme” to be a “catchphrase or concept that spreads in a fast way from person to person via the internet”
Urban Dictionary describes an “internet meme” as “an idea, belief or belief system, or pattern of behavior that spreads throughout a culture either vertically by cultural inheritance (as by parents to children) or horizontally by cultural acquisition (as by peers, information medai, and entertainment media)”
Memes.org is another site that explains what memes are all about
But just what is an internet meme? It is an internet fad that is spread “virally.” The term virally means over tens of thousands of people will witness this fad and think it is the next best thing to sliced bread in a single day! The keywords here are tens of thousands and single day. This fad can be as simple as a catchphrase or a joke to something complicated such as a RickRoll or a video. Like a fad, internet memes are short-lived and will only last a couple of days to a week or 2. After that, a new meme is usually found.
But why bring this up?
Weezer has just release a music video of its new single Pork and Beans. In this video, there are a collections of internet memes. I won’t go into too much detail about which ones were seen, but Sarah Meyers has done an excellent job of explaining the nerd/geek culture of Weezer and their appeal towards a new tech/geek/nerd generation. She also has links to the internet memes that were in the video so you can see what the big fuss was about. The music video is just below and you can check out Sarah’s vlog (video blog) here.
