Go Ahead… You Can Touch It…

So every one out there is buzzing about the first glimpses into Windows 7, the operating system that will one day replace Windows Vista. Like many of the people who eagerly browsed through the screenshots and viewed the small video demonstration, I was left wanting more. Heck, I was left wanting something new! See the video for yourself after the jump.
Video: Multi-Touch in Windows 7
Holy crap! Windows 7 is going to have a multi-touch interface!
If you’re not surprised, or have a knack for detecting sarcasm on the interwebs, then you probably realize that all of this neat bit of tech has already been demonstrated with Microsoft Surface. Now, don’t mistake my attitude with dissatisfaction. I think it’s great that we’ll get to see this kind of interaction in the next version of Windows. But should I be surprised? We’re seeing this technology in use already - chiefly in cell phones.
I mean, I’m not bothered by what’s been shown so far. I’m bothered by what isn’t being shown. But heck, Vista’s still an infant! A tiny, helpless, vomit-spewing infant! And while we’re still trying to figure out if the first Vista service pack is a blessing or a curse, I’m getting e-mails telling me to check out the latest demo for the next version of Windows. So now I’m bothered that I’m bothered that the demos are limited! It’s not enough to make me switch to a Mac, but it’s definitely giving me a headache.
So please, don’t over-analyze like so many out there are about Windows 7. Just check out the video. Look at the screenshots. Think, “Oh that looks like a bit of fun!” and then go back to clicking your security warnings in Vista. I use XP, so instead of doing that I’ll be trying to figure out how a 5 year old with snot and food on his fingers is going to play a game on Windows 7 without ruining a perfectly nice touchscreen.
