HDTV prices to be slashed by mid-May

How much will you save? Try 20-25%! According to HDGuru [originally found via Gizmodo]: “Sony’s latest 40” 1080p (1920×1080) HDTV the KDL-S4100 will have a (suggested minimum price) of just $1199 making a full $500 less than its lowest priced predecessor.”

With government issued rebate checks hitting mailboxes around the same time, is it a coincidence that these prices are lower so that people can make the big upgrade? Especially when you will need a new set-top box or HDTV by 2009…
