WordCamp Boston – Behind the Scenes of AV

Posted by kurt | Posted in Random News | Posted on 02-07-2010

What really happened on January 23rd with the mics, the audio, the live streaming and the display issues?

Apple something… What was it again?

Posted by kurt | Posted in Announcements, Apple, iPods/iPhone | Posted on 01-27-2010

OH! you mean the supposed tablet? I’ll be parsing through info from different live feeds (Gizmodo, CrunchGear and Engadget)

Stay tuned! Less than 30min to go!

1.5 pounds, 1/2inch thick, 9.7inch screen (not OLED that has 960×640 resolution), 1GHz Apple A4 chip (thank you PA seimconductors), 16-64GB storage, 802.11n wi-fi…

Think a bigger iPod Touch with a not so good name…

30-pin connector for accessories, bluetooth,

No camera… No flash support…

16GB without 3G $499… upto 64GB with 3G (AT&T for $30/month) for $830

Not my cup of tea… I’ll stick with my netbook tyvm!

What’s up with Lenovo?

Lenovo LogoAs I write this, I look down at my Lenovo T61 (work issued) and I think to myself, what a boring looking laptop. Sure it is made for more corporate shills like myself but it is very durable and has some nice power to it. But when I look at what they have in store for the future, it makes me very giddy! Lots of pictures and videos after the bump!

Nexus One: The Google Phone

Posted by kurt | Posted in Cell Phones, Featured, Phones, Tech Rumors | Posted on 12-16-2009

largenexuslogoYes, a Google phone that isn’t to be confused with the Droid (Android) however, it appears to run on almost the same platform.

But recently, there have been leaks of pictures and videos on the not-quite-official-blog/website thenexusone.com however, none have been entirely impressive as there are only 30 second clips of boot-up and the screen running… whoopie!

There has also been a recap from Fox News about this said phone.  Although it may cost consumers $1000 (yes, that is one thousand), it is for good reason.  Since the phone will have no affiliation with any carrier network, there is no subsidized price.  However, if there is no carrier network, how will the phone actually work?  Data towers and pure VoIP? Or does it have something to do with the 700MHz spectrum auction a year ago?  Hopefully we’ll find out soon but for now, enjoy the videos and keep up with the websites!

You Suck at Photoshop

Posted by kurt | Posted in Software, The Internet, Videos | Posted on 12-15-2009

Not literally of course… unless you really don’t know how to use it.  But in this case, it is a video series.

You Suck at Photoshop is a series of videos that aim to teach you how to use Photoshop to the programs moderate potential.  If you have ever used Photoshop, this program is not for the faint at heart.  It can get very very complicated if you just try and fool around with it.

Well, these “tutorial” videos are full of informative material as well as some fictional plot/dialogue.  I want to emphasize fictional as although the narrator may sound true and sincere, these series are all scripted.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the language is not for the faint at heart.

Conferences, Meetups, and LANs Oh My!

Posted by kurt | Posted in Announcements, Live Blog, Social Media, TNMS Updates, Video Games, geek | Posted on 12-03-2009

As I stated earlier, I have been neglectful due to real work as well as organizing the Beginner’s track for WordCamp Boston.  Check out the new site and don’t forget to register before December 15th to get the reduced price.

Tonight, I’ll be attending MegaTweetup at Microsoft NERD in Cambridge.  This is a huge social media event that is bound to break records and should be an awesome time.  I won’t be live blogging but I hope to get some pics.  And all proceeds go to Dana Farber Cancer Institute so hurry up!

Finally, there is PAX East 2010.  As an avid gamer (PC), and an avid comic reader (Penny Arcade eXpo), I am really looking forward to this 3day event.  I’m hoping to get a media pass and live blog a lot of the sessions so stay tuned in March for this awesome 30,000 LAN (local area network) party (LAN parties are people who  network computers to play games).

I’ll be on vacation from December 18th to January 3rd so I will be working on updating the site and the look.  So stay tuned for the new TNMS!

Neglectful :-(

Posted by kurt | Posted in Announcements, Live Blog, Social Media, The Internet | Posted on 11-16-2009

Yes, I’ve been a neglectful writer.  There is no excuse other than my other site is just as time consuming.

In other news, I am trying to help organize the first ever WordCamp Boston.  It will be a day full of WordPress issues, support, topics, CMS, SEO and hopefully I’ll be able to give a presentation for beginners (wordpress.com vs. wordpress.org; hosts/servers; plugins; setup) and to have a seat at our own “experts bar” for more hands-on support.  If you use WordPress, I would highly advise pre-registering for this event on January 23rd as the price of the tickets will go up at the end of December.

Feel free to follow us on Twitter, Google, and soon to be FaceBook.

And if you feel like sponsoring, please contact me here.

Day 2 with Google Wave

Posted by kurt | Posted in Software, The Internet | Posted on 10-15-2009

Google WaveI got my invite just 2 days ago. I woke up at my usual time of 4:45am and checked my 10+ emails over the night starting from 10pm. Twitter, Facebook… Google Wave?! Awesome! I woke up excited and ran to the computer.

I made my account and that was about it… I had to shower and make my breakfast before heading out.

Later that day, I sent out a couple of tweets about networking on Wave. I have a few contacts already but from what I gather, this Wave is a lot different from the original one I had imagined. I thought Wave would be a stand-alone web application that can be integrated on other hosts and servers. One that could be put into blogs using APIs and then run on our own servers. But after diving into Wave, it feels a lot more “corporate.”
